The Overview

Camp BEE is a one-of-a-kind summer camp for children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), a motor speech disorder that affects a child's ability to say sounds, syllables, and words. While campers work one on one with Speech Language Pathologists and therapeutic professionals, their parents attend apraxia education courses. Everyone leaves at the end of the week with something just as valuable as the therapy itself: a community of families who truly get it.

After a successful inaugural summer, Camp BEE was ready to grow. They needed a website that could support that growth, connect with new families, and handle the operational complexity of running a specialty camp across multiple locations.

Where It Started

Camp BEE's first summer was built largely on word of mouth and the passion of its founders. As they looked toward year two, including the launch of a second location in New Jersey, they needed infrastructure to match their ambition.

The goal wasn't just a website. It was a platform that could find the right families, communicate the heart of what Camp BEE does, and make the application process as smooth and trustworthy as possible for parents navigating something as personal as their child's care.

The Website Build

The Camp BEE website was built on WordPress using Beaver Builder, designed to do three things well: tell the Camp BEE story in a way that resonates with families, make it easy for campers and professionals to apply, and support the expansion to a second location without creating confusion.

A key piece of the build was a HIPAA-secure application process for both camper families and Speech Language Pathologists or other therapeutic professionals looking to join the staff. For families trusting a camp with sensitive medical and therapeutic information about their child, that security is a requirement. Getting that right was a non-negotiable part of the project.

The site also needed to communicate Camp BEE's sponsorship and scholarship program clearly, giving donors an easy path to support families who need financial assistance to attend.

The Results

The site launched approximately one month before this case study was written, and the early indicators are strong. Within the first month, the site generated 277 search impressions and 95 clicks — early momentum for a brand new site in a niche space, where building authority takes time.

The application numbers tell the more immediate story. Compared to the prior year:

Reach

More Campers

Camper applications grew by 50% year over year

Engagement

More Staff

Staff applications grew by 14% year over year

Growth

More Coverage

Camp BEE is now operating across two states, with more growth on the horizon

What We've Built Together

Camp BEE came in as a website project and became something more meaningful along the way. Building a platform for a mission this personal — connecting families navigating a speech disorder diagnosis with a community that understands them — required getting the details right. The HIPAA-secure forms, the clear service and scholarship information, the structure to support multiple locations. All of it in service of making it easier for the right families to find their way to camp.

This is the kind of work that reminds me why I love what I do.
